|Called to Preach is designed for those who have not had formal preaching training or who seek a basic refresher course. It is the required preaching course in the lay speaker track of study, covering topics like choosing scripture, finding a focus, writing and presenting the sermon.
This online version of Called to Preach additionally includes training for those who are navigating the challenges of preaching in Zoom or similar online environments. It will cover topics like situating your computer, arranging your background, using microphones, and engaging with the camera.
That means that participants will meet in a required Zoom meeting each week, with an option of identical Friday evening or Saturday morning sessions so participants can attend one that fits their schedule. Participants will choose their preferred option at the beginning of the course and will preach their sermon in Zoom at the end of the course.
This course will use the book From Pew to Pulpit: A Beginner’s Guide to Preaching, Clifton F. Guthrie
This course has been approved by Discipleship Ministries (formerly the General Board of Discipleship) as an advanced course in Lay Servant Ministries and qualifies for 10 contact hours for Lay Speakers.
This course is eligible for 1.0 CEU.
