Lay Servant Ministries
BeADisciple.com is proud to host online courses approved by Discipleship Ministries (formerly the General Board of Discipleship) as advanced courses in Lay Servant Ministries and Lay Speaker status. These courses are linked below and are designated by the Discipleship Ministries’ “Learning and Leading” logo.
“I was a little daunted to take one of these lay servant courses online but I feel like I’ve actually spent more quality time with the book and my fellow students than I usually do with a regular, live course!” — student Marshall MurphyAnyone is welcome to enroll for a great learning experience, but only those who have completed the Lay Servant Basic Course and have been certified as United Methodist Lay Servants are eligible for LSM re-certification through these courses.
You are advised to check with your own district laity director to make sure this online coursework will be accepted in your area, as each district and conference has its own set of guidelines. You will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of these courses; however, it is your responsibility to self-report completion to your own district or conference system. We do not report this on your behalf, but we will confirm your completion upon inquiry from your district or conference if requested.
These first 5 courses meet the requirement for Certified Lay Servant (one advanced course every 3 years). In addition, these 5 courses meet the requirements for the Lay Speaker status. Click links for course descriptions.
