Most people in our congregations are serving or will eventually serve as caregivers to another person. Caring for a loved one can be draining and sometimes overwhelming. Sometimes it’s easier for caregivers to push God away instead of drawing closer during these difficult times. What can we as pastors and church leaders do to provide pastoral care to these caregivers?
Participants in this course will journal, study the Bible, and interact through a weekly message board. Some weeks we’ll watch a movie and discuss it together. We’ll be focusing on clarifying and telling our own personal faith stories, so that we can better listen to and serve caregivers. We’ll need to draw from our own experiences of staying connected with God through difficult times to help caregivers in our congregation do the same. On the last week of class, each participant will post their faith story for the class to view.
We’ll also cover caregiver self-care (in all aspects of their lives), caregiver preparedness, and other resources. Through this course, you’ll learn tips for being in discussion with a caregiver and how to be present with them on their journey.
This course is eligible for 1.0 CEU.
