Of all facets of leadership that can strengthen a “sand” foundation to a “rock” foundation, personal identity is the core of quality leadership.
This course will begin with a personal identity quiz that will provide a baseline for our three weeks. This course will also examine how identities relate to the social world and what social factors affect and help frame an individual’s standards, beliefs, and emotions. We will then take these aspects into a deeper study of how God defines individuals along with personal identities and relationships with God.
People who enroll in this course will discover more about themselves by exploring and unfolding layers of self-identification and leave this course with discoveries that motivate self-esteem! When people discover ‘who’ they are it often leads to security in themselves along with positive relationships with others!
This course includes reading assignments, discussion boards, and personal journal writing that will lead to defining individual’s potential to influence and motivate others while serving as mentors, leaders, teachers, and disciples of Christ.
This course is eligible for 1.0 CEU.
About the Instructor
Janelle Nesbitt is a Youth Coordinator at a yoked Methodist/Presbyterian church which plays host to an ecumenical youth program serving over 125 students ranging from Kindergarten to the 12th grade.
In 2013, Janelle was part of a group of leaders that recognized the need to change the local denominational church youth program to a community youth program hosted at the church. She worked with the church’s Session in convincing them that the current youth program could better serve “all” people, as Jesus has taught us. After positive feedback from the Session, the programming changed names and format and has been vital for many years!
Janelle worked as an event coordinator for the betterment of her local community for 9 years and enjoys volunteering on a variety of local service boards, along with teaching religion classes each week and filling the pulpit when called upon. She is a strong believer that God gave all His people of all ages special gifts, and the everyone is His masterpiece. Janelle earned her para-certification in Youth Ministry through Southwestern College.
